The company: Retailer Moosejaw Mountaineering sells high-end outdoor apparel and equipment to a loyal audience of hikers, bikers and the like. The Madison Heights-based chain has one goal, said Robert Wolfe, president and CEO: to "carry the best outdoor products and have fun doing it." Moosejaw has six retail locations in Michigan and Chicago, a mail-order catalog and six Web sites. New warehouse : Moosejaw recently signed a lease for a new warehouse, its fourth since 2002. Wolfe said the company is growing quickly enough that it needs the additional space, so it continues to upgrade its warehouses. One of its most successful lines is its Moosejaw brand, which includes hats, pants, shirts, shorts, sweatshirts and baby togs. Having fun: Wolfe said the company's five-year goal is to expand its selling channels without losing its signature conviction that shopping at Moosejaw should be the best part of any customer's day. "We want to expand all three and still be cool," said Wolfe, who founded Moosejaw in 1992 at age 21. "We've had opportunities to (grow commercially) in the short term, but we have chosen not to take that path." |
